Former Real Madrid And Brazilian Full-Back, Marcelo Retires From Football

The iconic Brazilian full-back Marcelo Vieira da Silva has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing to an end a remarkable career that spanned sixteen seasons with Real Madrid and a triumphant return to Fluminense.

In an emotional video shared on his social media, Marcelo stated: “My journey as a player ends here. But I still have much to give to football. Thank you for so much.”

Marcelo dedicated special words to his grandfather Pedro, who was a pivotal figure in his football career. “My love for football comes from my grandfather. He wanted me to become a professional footballer and did everything possible to make it happen,” he recalled with emotion.

His career took off in 2006 when, at just 18 years old, Real Madrid came calling. “I can now say that I am a Madridista. Here, my wife and I have built a family. Sixteen seasons, 25 titles, 5 Champions League trophies, being one of the captains, and so many magical nights at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid is a different club; being a Madridista is an inexplicable feeling,” Marcelo confessed.

Throughout his career, Marcelo played 546 matches for Real Madrid, accumulating 25 titles: 5 European Cups, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 6 La Liga titles, 2 Copa Del Rey trophies, and 5 Spanish Super Cups.
