LA Fire Death Toll Rises To 16

Officials in Los Angeles say at least 16 people have died since wildfires started on Tuesday. Officials fear the number is likely to rise.

The Eaton fire has killed 11 people. Among them are Victor Shaw, 66, who died trying to defend his home in Altadena, and Erliene Kelly, 83, who did not believe the fire would not reach her home, her family says.

Also in Altadena, Anthony Mitchell, 67, and his adult son Justin – who was in his early 20s and had cerebral palsy – both died as they tried to escape the fires.

The Palisades fire has killed five people including Randall Miod, 55, a long-time Malibu resident, and Annette Rossilli, 85, who reportedly refused to evacuate her home.

Also a former child star from Australia died when the LA fires ripped through his family’s Malibu estate in California earlier this week, according to his mother.

Rory Callum Sykes was at the family’s 17-acre Mount Malibu TV Studios estate, where he had his own cottage, when it burned down on January 8, his mother Shelley Sykes wrote on X Thursday.

Shelley Sykes described her son, who appeared on the 1998 British TV series “Kiddy Kapers,” as “beautiful” and “wonderful” and said she was “totally heart broken” by his death.
