Tems Beat Burna Boy, Asake, Yemi Alade to Bag First Individual Grammy
Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Tems won her first individual Grammy award on Sunday at the 67th Recording Academy Awards with her love track, Love Me Jeje.
Tems beats her Nigerian Afrobeats compatriots, Burna Boy, Asake, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and the Davido and Lojay assisted ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown to win the second Grammy in the Best African Music Performance category.
The singer has become the first Nigerian to have two Grammys to her name after winning the Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023 for featuring on Future’s hit Wait For U.
The awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.
South Africa’s Tyla won the award for her hit Water in 2024 in the category’s first edition.
Tems received three nominations at this year’s Grammys, bringing her career total to eight. She was also nominated for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning).
