Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Resigns from PDP, Cites National Leadership Crisis

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially resigned his membership from the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP), the platform under which he served as Senator and was elected Governor.
The resignation, submitted to his local party officials on November 4, 2025, underscores the deep-
seated friction currently impacting the opposition party at the national level.

Governor Adeleke, who served as Senator representing Osun West from 2017 to 2019 before his
election as Governor in 2022, formalized his departure in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman,
Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area.

In the resignation letter, the Governor directly attributed his decision to the ongoing instability, stating:
“Due to the current crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (@OfficialPDPNig) at
the national level, on the 4th of November, 2025, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a
member to the leadership of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North local government.
I thanked the party and its numerous members and supporters for the opportunities given to me to use
the platform for my elections as first a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor
of Osun State.”

The move follows months of internal wrangling within the PDP, which has seen various factions compete
for control and court rulings challenging the legitimacy of the national structure.
This internal turmoil has been cited by multiple political analysts as potentially undermining the party’s
readiness for future electoral contests.

While the Governor has yet to announce his next political affiliation, his resignation marks a significant
realignment in the political landscape of Osun State and further highlights the challenges facing the PDP
as it attempts to unify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
