Senate Confirms Taiwo Oyedele As Minister Of State For Finance

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for
Finance following his screening by lawmakers in Abuja.
The confirmation came after senators questioned the economist and tax policy expert for over two
hours on fiscal reforms, revenue generation and economic management before approving his
appointment through a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.

Oyedele was nominated by President Bola Tinubu to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who recently moved to
the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning as Minister of State.
During the screening, Oyedele outlined strategies aimed at stabilising government revenues and
improving budget implementation. He told senators that Nigeria needs realistic budgeting and broader
revenue sources beyond crude oil and taxation.
He also proposed measures such as forward sales of crude oil to reduce exposure to global price
volatility and ensure more predictable financing for government budgets.

Before his nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and
Tax Reforms, where he led initiatives aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system and improving revenue
administration.
With the Senate’s confirmation, Oyedele is expected to join the finance ministry to support ongoing
fiscal reforms and strengthen the country’s economic management framework.
