Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Celebrates 74th Birthday
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marked his 74th birthday on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with a low-key
celebration in line with the prevailing national mood and his personal tradition.
Born on March 29, 1952, the President opted for a subdued observance rather than elaborate events. In
a statement released from the State House, he expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their goodwill
messages, prayers, and continued support.
“Consistent with my tradition of marking my birthday in line with the mood of the nation, I have
resolved to observe this year’s birthday in a low-key manner,” President Tinubu said.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by ongoing economic reforms but noted emerging signs of
progress and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering better outcomes for Nigerians.
The President received congratulatory messages from several national leaders on Saturday, March 28,
and Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio described him as “an audacious, visionary leader” with the capacity
to reset the country.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas hailed him as a pro-democracy figure,
seasoned administrator, and freedom fighter who has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s democratic
journey.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin also extended felicitations,
praising his leadership and praying for his good health and strength.
Other tributes came from governors, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Peter Mbah of Enugu
State, and Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, as well as First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who expressed
pride in her husband.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and the All Progressives Congress (APC) also issued messages
celebrating the President’s service to the nation.
President Tinubu attended prayers at the Abuja National Mosque on his birthday. Some state governors
and organisations, including Lagos State, used the occasion for low-key gestures such as distributing
food items to residents.
