Tinubu Congratulates UK’s New Prime Minister, Seeks Stronger Bilateral Ties
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and
reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The message was conveyed in an official statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, by the Nigerian
Presidency.
Tinubu extended warm felicitations to the UK leader following their assumption of office and highlighted
the deep historical, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties that bind Nigeria and the United
Kingdom.
The President emphasised Nigeria’s desire to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade and
investment, security, education, healthcare, technology transfer, and climate change.
He also expressed hope for increased collaboration on multilateral issues within the Commonwealth,
the United Nations, and other international forums.
Tinubu described the United Kingdom as a vital partner for Nigeria and Africa, noting the significant
contributions of the British business community and the large Nigerian diaspora in the UK.
This gesture reflects Nigeria’s continued engagement with the United Kingdom as a major strategic
partner in Africa and a key player in global affairs.
Diplomatic channels between the two countries are expected to facilitate further engagement in the
coming weeks.
