APC Slams Obi Over Criticism, Says Nigeria Needs Continuity, Not Reset
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi
for his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that Nigeria requires policy
continuity rather than a fresh reset ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, made the remarks on Monday, July 27,
2026, while reacting to Obi’s recent interview on Channels Television.
In the interview, Obi suggested the country was headed in the wrong direction under Tinubu and called
for a different leadership approach.
Arodiogbu described Obi’s call for a complete policy reset as counterproductive, arguing that the Tinubu
administration had laid a solid foundation for economic recovery.
He urged Nigerians to support the consolidation of ongoing reforms instead of abandoning them for
what he termed “another political experiment.”
Obi had described the Tinubu administration’s agenda as one of “failure and renewed hopelessness,”
claiming Nigeria needed a fresh start to address its economic and governance challenges.
The APC countered that the priority should be building on existing gains rather than starting anew. The
ruling party’s response reflects growing political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with both sides
framing the debate around economic management and leadership continuity.
