Tinubu Has Lost Touch with Reality, Unaware He’s President — ADC’s Shaibu

Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
Presidential Campaign Council, has accused President Bola Tinubu of losing touch with reality and being
unaware of the hardships facing Nigerians.

Shaibu made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News on Sunday while responding to the
President’s recent comments blaming the opposition for the country’s hunger crisis.
Tinubu had stated at a campaign rally that opponents created the hunger and poverty that his
administration is trying to eradicate.

“He has lost touch with reality. Bola is not aware of his environment. He is not aware of what Nigerians
are going through. Therefore, he’s not even aware that he’s president,” Shaibu said.

He described the President’s explanation as delusional, noting that Tinubu has been in office for three
and a half years.

“I watched him yesterday and my eight-year-old son who was beside me said, what’s this man talking about? He has been in office for three and a half years. And he’s talking about hunger being created by
the opposition. Therefore, I think it is delusional.”

Shaibu argued that the administration should take responsibility for the current economic conditions
rather than shift blame.

He challenged Tinubu to compare the cost of living when he assumed office on 29 May 2023 with the
present situation, insisting that Nigerians should not be worse off under his leadership.
“Now, what we are asking, what Atiku Abubakar is asking, what Nigerians are asking, if what Bola Tinubu
met on the 29th of May 2023 was hunger… the least he could have done was to leave us at the state he
met us in 2023, where a litre of fuel was 167 Naira,” he said.

Shaibu identified the removal of the petrol subsidy as a major factor behind rising prices of goods and
services, arguing that the policy had worsened living costs for ordinary citizens.
He maintained that the ADC and opposition figures were holding the President accountable for the
outcomes of his policies after more than three years in power.
