Rudeboy Says Going Solo After P-Square Split Was Less Stressful

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has said pursuing a solo career after P-Square’s split was less stressful because he was already responsible for much of the group’s music production and songwriting.

The singer made the remarks during an interview with Luna Lifestyle TV on YouTube, where he discussed his transition from performing as part of the famous twin duo to working independently.

Asked whether going solo had been harder or easier, Rudeboy simply replied, “Less stressful.”

“With due respect, it was the same me,” he said. “I was the producer, the writer, the singer. So moving out of the group, it’s still the same thing.”

Rudeboy acknowledged that every member contributed to P-Square’s success but maintained that his role in creating the group’s music made the transition to a solo career easier.

The singer also insisted that P-Square’s legacy in Nigerian music history would never be forgotten. He pointed to the continued popularity of albums such as Get Squared and Game Over as evidence of the group’s lasting influence.

P-Square, made up of twin brothers Paul and Peter Okoye, known professionally as Rudeboy and Mr P, became one of Nigeria’s most successful music groups. Their hit songs include “Personally,” “Do Me,” “Chop My Money” and “Beautiful Onyinye.”

The duo first separated in 2017 following disagreements over management and other issues. They reunited in 2021 but split again in 2024, with both brothers pursuing their solo careers.

Rudeboy began releasing music independently after the first split and dropped his debut solo album, Rudykillus, in 2021. Peter has also continued his music career as Mr P.

Despite their repeated separations, P-Square’s music remains a significant part of Nigeria’s contemporary music history.
