Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed In Abuja Robbery

The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of
Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, a News Anchor, Reporter,
and Producer with Arise Television.
Maduagwu reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday after an armed robbery attack at
her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja. According to preliminary reports, armed men
invaded her home, leading to the tragic incident. The matter is currently under investigation by
the Nigeria Police Force.

Colleagues at Arise TV and members of the media fraternity have expressed deep shock at the
news, describing Sommie as a brilliant journalist, passionate storyteller, and rising star in
Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.
A statement from the police confirmed that an investigation has commenced into the
circumstances surrounding her death, with assurances that those responsible will be brought to
justice.

Tributes have since poured in on social media, with journalists, public figures, and viewers of
Arise TV mourning her sudden passing and calling for urgent action to address insecurity in the
Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu was regarded as one of the promising young voices in Nigeria’s
broadcast industry, known for her professionalism, engaging style, and commitment to public
service journalism. Her death marks a painful loss to the media community and to the country at
large.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by her family.
