Atiku Denies Stepping Down From Presidential Race

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly denied reports claiming he has decided to step aside
and retire from active politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 30, 2026, by his media office and signed by Paul Ibe, Atiku
described the circulating claims as “entirely false and deliberately misleading.”

The reports alleged that he held a meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
where he allegedly chose to retire from politics.
“This latest falsehood bears all the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to
create confusion, dampen momentum, and mislead the Nigerian public,” the statement read.
Atiku urged his supporters and the general public to disregard the fake news and remain focused on the
collective effort to rebuild the country.

The denial comes amid growing political realignments and speculation around the 2027 presidential
race, with Atiku widely seen as a leading figure in the opposition ADC.
