Iran Says It Will Decide When War Ends After Trump Predicts End To Conflict

Iran has pushed back against remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said the ongoing conflict
with Iran could end “very soon,” insisting that Tehran, not Washington, will determine when the war
concludes.

Trump made the comments during remarks to reporters and lawmakers on March 9, 2026, saying the
joint U.S. and Israeli military campaign against Iran had already achieved significant objectives and
suggesting the conflict might soon come to an end. He described the operation as largely “complete”
and warned Tehran against further escalation.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement rejecting the U.S.
president’s assertion and stressing that Iranian forces would determine the course of the war.
“It is we who will determine the end of the war,” the IRGC said, adding that the “future status of the
region” now lies in the hands of Iran’s armed forces rather than American troops.

Iranian officials also warned that continued attacks by the United States and Israel could trigger further
escalation across the region, including potential disruptions to oil exports through strategic waterways
such as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments.
The war, which intensified after U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in late February 2026, has led to
missile and drone exchanges across the Middle East and heightened tensions in global energy markets.
Iran’s foreign ministry has also ruled out immediate negotiations with Washington, signalling that
hostilities could continue despite Trump’s suggestion that the conflict may end soon.

Analysts warn that the sharply different narratives from Washington and Tehran highlight the
uncertainty surrounding the conflict’s duration and the broader risk of escalation across the Middle East.
