Lineker Apologizes To Osimhen Over Comments on Galatasaray Move

Former England forward and media pundit Gary Lineker has publicly apologised to Nigerian
striker Victor Osimhen for remarks he made regarding Osimhen’s transfer to Galatasaray,
admitting that his earlier criticisms were unfounded.

In comments carried by Soccernet.ng, Lineker acknowledged that in interviews and podcasts, he
had implied that Osimhen sometimes “goes missing,” suggesting inconsistency in the forward’s
availability and behaviour. However, after witnessing Osimhen’s performance in Galatasaray’s
recent Champions League win over Liverpool, he retracted those claims.
“I need to apologise to Victor Osimhen. I remember that I intimated that he would go missing
sometimes, and I believe that is completely not the case,” Lineker said.
He continued: “So, Victor, if you’re listening, I’m sorry about that. You shouldn’t spread rumors
about these things … he’s quick, tall, a good finisher and strong in the air. He took Konaté
apart. He’s a hell of a player.”

Lineker’s change of tone came after Osimhen proved decisive in Galatasaray’s 1–0 win over
Liverpool, converting a penalty and helping to secure a vital victory. The striker’s performance
renewed respect and admiration from fans and critics alike, prompting the apology.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a long-term deal following a successful loan spell, and his
decision had been met with some scepticism from pundits. But recent displays, especially in
European competition, appear to have shifted perceptions.
