Liverpool Fall To Newcastle United In The Carabao Cup Final

Liverpool’s hope to get the quadruple or treble earlier in the season has been dashed after losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United. This loss comes after the Merseyside club lost to French side PSG in the Champions League.

Dan Burn and Alexander Isak, on either side of half-time gave Eddie Howe’s side a commanding lead.

Before Federico Chiesa halved the deficit for Liverpool in extra time, but that wasn’t enough for the Merseyside club to find their way back after going two goals down.

It was a brilliant header from Burn, who was recently called up to the England squad, and a lovely swept finish from Isak.

Chiesa’s goal was initially ruled offside by the assistant referee, by VAR deduced the Italian was onside before firing past Nick Pope.

The Carabao Cup victory is the first domestic trophy for the Magpies in 70 years.

Newcastle Coach Eddie Howe also becomes the first English manager to win a domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
