Mayweather Raises Uncertainty Over Planned Pacquiao Rematch

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has cast doubt on key details of the much-hyped rematch with Manny Pacquiao,
describing the bout as an exhibition and saying the venue is not yet confirmed.
Mayweather made the comments on Saturday, March 28, 2026, during a meet-and-greet and autograph
session at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Speaking to Vegas Sports Today, the 49-year-old undefeated former champion said: “As of right now, we
don’t know exactly where the fight is going to be at.
The Sphere is one of the places that they talked about, so we don’t know if it’s 100 percent going to be
there. And this is not actually a fight. It’s an exhibition.”
The remarks come more than a month after Netflix and promoters announced on February 23, 2026,
that the two boxing legends would meet again on September 19, 2026, at the Sphere in Las Vegas, the
first professional boxing event at the venue.

The original announcement described it as a professional rematch of their 2015 “Fight of the Century.”
Mayweather’s latest position has introduced uncertainty, as he now frames the contest as a non-
sanctioned exhibition that would not count on either fighter’s official record. Pacquiao, 47, had
previously indicated he would only participate in a proper professional bout.

No official response from Pacquiao’s camp or Netflix has been reported as of March 30, 2026, regarding
Mayweather’s updated comments. The September 19 date has not been formally cancelled, but the status of the event remains unclear.
