Osimhen Criticised For Grabbing Besiktas Defender By The Throat In Derby Incident

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen came under scrutiny after a heated confrontation with
Besiktas defender Emirhan Topçu during Saturday’s Istanbul derby, where he appeared to grab
Topçu by the throat. The dramatic moment occurred in a match that ended 1–1 at Rams Park.

According to Turkish media reports, the incident transpired around the 40th minute following a
challenge in the right flank area. Frustrated by what he thought was a diver by Topçu and
disagreement with the referee’s decision, Osimhen confronted the defender aggressively.
Eyewitnesses say both players were booked by the referee, though many pundits believe
Osimhen should have received a harsher sanction.

Former Turkish international Nihat Kahveci criticized the lack of stronger disciplinary action and questioned how he “escaped a sending-off.”
According to a Legit report, the altercation was sparked by what Osimhen perceived as a foul,
leading to a moment of lost temper.
