Osimhen Says Super Eagles Focused Ahead of AFCON Semi-Final vs Morocco

Victor Osimhen, vice-captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has reiterated the team’s confidence, unity and
focus as they prepare to face host nation Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final
on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
The comments came after Nigeria’s convincing 2–0 quarter-final victory over Algeria in Marrakech on
Saturday, January 10, where Osimhen scored and provided an assist to help secure Nigeria’s place in the
last four.

Speaking after the Algeria win, Osimhen emphasised that the squad’s mindset remains collective and
determined, saying the match against Morocco will be tough but the team believes in its ability to
compete.
“It is not going to be easy for us, but I believe in this squad, and I believe in the players,” he told
reporters, reflecting his trust in the unity and preparation of the Super Eagles as they shift focus to their
next challenge.

Osimhen, who scored the opening goal against Algeria and helped set up the second, also thanked
Nigerian fans worldwide for their support and urged them to continue backing the side as momentum
builds.
“Thank you so much for your support worldwide,” he said, adding that the team will build on this
momentum and aim to reach the final and ultimately win the tournament.

The Super Eagles have impressed throughout the tournament, scoring freely and demonstrating
resilience. Nigeria scored 14 goals across their matches to reach the semi-final stage, and Osimhen’s
leadership has been central to the squad’s performance.
Teammates, including defender Semi Ajayi, have echoed this belief in unity and focus ahead of the
Morocco clash, stating the team has remained hungry and ready for the task at hand.

The semi-final showdown with Morocco, played in front of a passionate home crowd at the Prince
Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, represents a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s bid for a fourth AFCON
title.
Despite the daunting challenge of facing the host nation, Osimhen’s remarks underline the squad’s
