EFL Cup: Arsenal Fall To Newcastle At The Emirates

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side falls to Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium. His side were beaten 2-0 by a strong Newcastle team, making the trip to St. James’ Park looking like a mountain to climb.

The Gunners fell behind in the first half after Alexander Isak struck the back of the net following a string of missed Arsenal chances, notably through Gabriel Martinelli who hit the post. Isak would then force a shot early in the second half that landed after a Raya save right at Anthony Gordon’s feet to finish.
While the Gunners were 13 games unbeaten heading into the contest, the visitors were in red-hot form and it was their leading man Alexander Isak, that caused the Gunners all sorts of problems at the back.
Both sides will face off in the second leg at St James’ Park next month, with Newcastle now in the driving seat to reach their second Carabao Cup final in three years.
