NEC Approves ₦100 Billion for Rehabilitation of Security Agencies’ Training Institutions

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the sum of ₦100 billion for the rehabilitation and
upgrade of training institutions belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security agencies
nationwide.

This crucial decision was taken at the 154th NEC meeting, which was held virtually on Wednesday,
December 3, 2025, and was chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The approval, which is subject to final ratification by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also includes an
additional sum of ₦2.6 billion designated for consultancy services related to the comprehensive
rehabilitation project.

This substantial investment follows a recommendation presented by an ad-hoc committee constituted
earlier in October 2025 to assess the state of security training facilities across the country.
The establishment of the committee was originally proposed by President Tinubu during the 152nd NEC
meeting held on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
At that meeting, the President raised serious concerns about the dilapidated state of police training
facilities and emphasized the necessity of addressing the crisis to improve the morale and capacity of
security personnel.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who chaired the ad-hoc committee, presented the findings to the
Council. His report underscored the dire conditions of most training institutions, stressing the urgent need for intervention to restore their capacity for effective manpower development and combatting evolving security threats.
In his remarks following the presentation, NEC Chairman, Vice President Shettima, reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s security architecture through improved
training and operational standards.

He urged governors across the 36 states to ensure that economic and security reforms translate into
clear, measurable, and tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
The approval of the ₦100 billion fund is seen as a critical step towards equipping security personnel with
modern skills and tools, aligning with the administration’s goals to enhance national security
preparedness and translate policy into effective outcomes across the federation.
