TikTok Temporarily Restricts Late-Night Live Access in Nigeria.

TikTok has temporarily restricted access to its LIVE feature during late-night hours for users in Nigeria,
citing an ongoing safety investigation.

This action follows the platform’s disclosure of sweeping enforcement statistics for the second quarter
of 2025, which saw millions of videos and tens of thousands of LIVE sessions banned across the country.
The restriction, which was reportedly implemented around midnight on Sunday, December 7, 2025,
temporarily blocked both the ability to host and view LIVE sessions for Nigerian accounts during peak
night hours, typically between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. (WAT).

In-app messages sent to affected creators, who generally require at least 1,000 followers to host a LIVE
session, stated: “We’re temporarily limiting LIVE late at night in Nigeria as part of our investigation to
ensure our platform remains safe and our community stays protected.” Access to the feature was
restored by the morning of Monday, December 8, 2025.
This temporary restriction closely followed the release of Nigeria-specific data from TikTok’s Quarter 2
2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report (CGER), which covers the period from April to June
2025.

The data, shared at the company’s West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, Senegal, highlighted intensified
efforts to curb policy violations in the region.
The enforcement report confirmed the following figures for Nigeria alone during Q2 2025:
LIVE Sessions Banned: TikTok banned 49,512 LIVE sessions for violating the platform’s LIVE Monetisation guidelines.

The company removed 3,780,426 videos for breaching its Community Guidelines.
TikTok noted that its moderation systems are highly proactive. Of the videos removed in Nigeria:
98.7 percent were taken down before being viewed by any user. 91.9 percent were removed within 24 hours of being posted.

The platform’s temporary limitation on late-night LIVE access is viewed by analysts as a targeted,
proactive measures to address specific harmful behaviors, particularly violations of monetization and
behavioral guidelines that often peak during those hours.
