Tinubu Approves 30-80% Pay Rise For Armed Forces
In a major move aimed at boosting troop morale and strengthening Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, President Tinubu approved salary increases of between 30 and 80 per cent for about 250,000 personnel of the Armed Forces.
According to the Presidency, officers above the rank of colonel and its equivalent, that is, Brigadier-Generals to Generals, will get a 30 percent increase. Officers from Colonel down to Warrant Officer will have their salaries raised by 50 percent.
For those from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive the highest bump, an 80 percent increase. The pay rise will push the government’s annual salary bill for the armed forces from 660 billion naira to 924 billion naira. In approving the pay rise, President Tinubu praised the courage and sacrifices of the military as they confront banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.
