Atiku Set to Lead ADC Presidential Campaign Flag-Off in Sokoto
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, is expected to lead the party’s campaign flag-off in Sokoto State on Wednesday as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, announced that the event would take place at the party’s state secretariat at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Lamido said Atiku was expected to arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at 9am.
He called on party supporters and members of the public to turn out at the airport to welcome the former Vice-President before proceeding to the campaign activities.
Lamido also urged party executives across the state’s 23 local government areas and wards, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, and women and youth organisations to mobilise their members for the event.
“All local government area and ward executives, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, women and youth organisations are urged to activate their respective structures and ensure maximum participation,” he said.
The planned flag-off comes amid political tension in Sokoto, following disagreements between the ADC and the state government over the party’s activities and access to its facilities.
The ADC had accused the Sokoto State Government of sealing its state secretariat along Ahmadu Bello Way, demanding that the premises be reopened. The state government, however, defended the action, citing concerns over the ownership of the property and security following an alleged confrontation involving party supporters.
The party has also raised concerns over the safety of its members and supporters, alleging intimidation and attempts to disrupt its political activities. These claims have generated reactions from political stakeholders and security agencies.
The campaign flag-off is expected to form part of the ADC’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and mobilise support across Sokoto ahead of the 2027 general elections.
