President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian
diplomatic missions across the world and multilateral organisations, months after their nominations

According to a statement issued on March 6, 2026 by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and
Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments include 34 non-career ambassadors and 31 career diplomats
who have now been assigned to their respective countries of posting.
Among the notable postings, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been appointed Nigeria’s
ambassador to Mexico, while former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode will serve as Nigeria’s envoy to
Germany.

Other prominent appointments include businessman and senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was designated as
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Former interior minister Abdulrahman Dambazau was posted to China, while former Abia State
governor Okezie Ikpeazu will serve in Spain and former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was
assigned to Greece.
Additional postings include former Chief of Defence Intelligence Lateef Kayode Are to the United States,

The presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the process of securing diplomatic
clearance from host countries for the envoys and will organise induction programmes before they

Officials said the new deployments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally
and advancing the country’s foreign policy interests across Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
