Tinubu Arrives Uk On Historic State Visit
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in the United Kingdom for an official state visit, marking a
significant diplomatic engagement between both countries.
According to verified reports, Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu touched down at Stansted Airport in
London on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at about 3:23 p.m. local time, formally commencing the visit.
The trip follows an invitation from King Charles III, who, alongside Queen Camilla, is scheduled to host
the Nigerian delegation at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19, 2026.
This visit is widely described as historic, being the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in nearly
four decades, with previous such visits recorded in 1973, 1981, and 1989.
During the visit, Tinubu is expected to hold high-level engagements, including a bilateral meeting with
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street.
Discussions are set to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, defence, and cultural
exchange, alongside the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding.
In addition, the Nigerian president will participate in events highlighting Nigeria’s creative and economic
sectors, including a cultural exhibition and interactions with business leaders and members of the
diaspora.
The visit is expected to culminate in formal state ceremonies hosted by the British monarchy, reinforcing
diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
