Minister Of Power, Adebayo Adelabu Resigns

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position in the Federal
Executive Council.
The resignation was contained in a letter dated Wednesday, April 22, 2026, addressed to President Bola
Ahmed Tinubu, and routed through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the letter, Adelabu’s resignation will take effect on April 30, 2026, to allow for a smooth
transition and handover of responsibilities at the Ministry of Power.

In his correspondence, the outgoing minister expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the
opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a privilege and an honour to contribute to reforms
in Nigeria’s power sector.
Adelabu stated that his decision to step down was driven by his intention to pursue his governorship
ambition in Oyo State, noting that the move aligns with provisions of the Amended Electoral Act 2026,
which restricts serving political appointees from contesting elections.

He added that his aspiration to govern Oyo State predates his ministerial appointment, recalling earlier
efforts to contest the position in previous election cycles.
During his tenure, Adelabu oversaw key reforms in the electricity sector, including implementation of
the Electricity Act 2023 and efforts aimed at improving generation capacity, distribution efficiency, and
market stability, although structural challenges in the sector persist.
