APC Postpones Presidential, Governorship Primaries

The All Progressives Congress has postponed its presidential and governorship primaries originally
scheduled for mid-May 2026.
The party shifted the presidential primary from May 15 and 16, 2026, to May 23, 2026. The
governorship primaries were also adjusted accordingly within the revised timetable.

The adjustment was announced on or around Wednesday, April 22, 2026, and widely reported on
Thursday, April 23, 2026.
It forms part of an updated schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, following the initial
timetable released by the party earlier in April 2026.
The APC national organising secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, signed the original timetable,
which had set the presidential primary for May 15–16, 2026, and placed the governorship primary
around May 23, 2026, or nearby dates depending on the exact initial version.

The postponement ensures alignment with the Independent National Electoral Commission revised
timetable, under which party primaries must be concluded by May 30, 2026.
Other key dates in the APC process remain largely consistent: sale of nomination forms, screening of
aspirants, and appeals continue in early to mid-May 2026, leading into the revised primary window.
The presidential nomination form stays at N100 million, while the governorship form is N50 million, with
fees for other positions unchanged.
The party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, had earlier communicated details of the initial
schedule.

The minor shift in primary dates was made to allow for smoother logistics and full compliance with
electoral guidelines.
No other major changes to the overall APC 2027 election preparations were announced alongside the
postponement.
The APC continues its internal processes ahead of submitting candidates to INEC in line with the
constitutional and electoral framework.
