Ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Tuggar Joins Bauchi Governorship Race

Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, has formally
declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the
All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tuggar made the declaration on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after resigning from President Bola Ahmed
Tinubu’s cabinet in March 2026.

His resignation complied with the presidential directive requiring all political appointees interested in
elective positions to step down before the March 31, 2026 deadline.
The former minister, who previously served as a member of the House of Representatives representing
Gamawa Federal Constituency and was the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) governorship
candidate in Bauchi in 2011, pledged to create a robust business environment, promote transparency in
governance, improve agriculture, enhance security, and generate jobs if elected.

Tuggar’s move follows wide consultations and has received support from groups such as the League of
Bauchi Professionals.
He is expected to face competition within the APC for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
