Tinubu Swears In Two New Ministers
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in two new ministers into the Federal Executive Council (FEC),
filling key positions in the power and foreign affairs sectors.
The ceremony took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in
Abuja, shortly before the weekly FEC meeting.
Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe was sworn in as the new Minister of Power. He takes over from the previous minister following a recent resignation. Biola Oni was sworn in as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Both nominees were screened and confirmed by the Senate in recent weeks. President Tinubu
administered the oath of office to the two appointees in a brief but formal ceremony.
After the swearing-in, President Tinubu charged the new ministers to hit the ground running.
He urged them to bring fresh ideas, commitment, and efficiency to their respective ministries,
emphasising the need for rapid improvements in electricity supply and strengthened diplomatic
engagements.
The President described the appointments as strategic, aimed at addressing critical gaps in the power sector and enhancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
This latest addition to the cabinet brings the total number of ministers closer to full strength following
previous resignations and reshuffles.
The appointment of Tegbe to the Power Ministry is particularly significant, as the sector remains a major
priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda due to persistent challenges in generation, transmission, and
distribution.
The induction of the two ministers allows the Federal Executive Council to resume full operations with
strengthened leadership in these critical areas.
