Army Kills Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recovers AK-47 Rifles in Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Composite Brigade have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition during a follow-up operation in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation was conducted on November 3, 2026, following an earlier raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the forest a day earlier.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the initial operation led to an encounter with suspected criminals, prompting troops to track fleeing suspects and clear other hideouts.

Items recovered during the follow-up operation included two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two bandoliers, two mobile phones and a power bank.

The Army said the operation consolidated the gains of the previous day’s raid and demonstrated the Brigade’s determination to maintain pressure on criminal groups operating within its area of responsibility.

It added that troops had continued to dominate the area, with their morale and operational effectiveness remaining high.

The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and restoring peace and security across Kogi State.

The operation comes amid ongoing efforts by the 12 Composite Brigade to support the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies in tackling kidnapping in parts of the state.
