APC Sweeps Rivers LG Elections, Wins 20 Out of 20LGs
The All Progressives Congress has won 20 of the 23 local government areas in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
The ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, on the other hand, won only three LGAs in the poll conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara also lost his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to the main opposition party in the state.
The declaration was made by the Chairman of the commission, Dr. Michael Odey, on Sunday at the Commission headquarters.
According to Dr. Odey, 18 parties participated in the exercise, and Rivers people turned out in large numbers to cast their votes.
The APC performed impressively, winning in several local government areas, including Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku Toru, Andoni, Asari Toru, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Emohua, Etche, Gokana, Ikwerre, Khana, Ogu Bolo, Okrika, Omuma, Opobo Nkoro, Oyigbo, and Tai.
