Ex Arsenal Star, Eboué Opens Up On Family Issues

Former Arsenal and Ivory Coast defender, Emmanuel Eboué has spoken emotionally about his ongoing
personal struggles and the pain of being separated from his three children following his divorce.
In a recent appearance on The 5th House Podcast, Eboué revealed that he has not seen his children,
daughters Clara (14) and Maeva (12), and son Mathis (9) — for years.
He stated that he does not have any recent photos of them, with the ones he possesses dating back to
when they were much younger.

Eboué explained that he has repeatedly asked their mother for updated pictures but has been refused.
He added that his messages to the children are often read but receive no replies.
He expressed deep sadness over missing key moments in their lives, including his son Mathis signing for
Chelsea, where he was not present.
The former right-back, who played for Arsenal between 2005 and 2011, linked the separation to his
high-profile divorce from his ex-wife Aurélie Bertrand around 2017.

He described losing significant assets and wealth built during his career in England, which contributed to
financial hardship, feelings of isolation, and mental health challenges in the years that followed.
Despite the difficulties, Eboué said he prays daily for a reunion with his children and holds on to faith
He emphasised that his past decisions in relationships were driven by love and commitment rather than
seeking public approval.
He also reflected on feeling alone during his lowest periods, even as he worked to rebuild his life.
Eboué has previously spoken publicly about mental health struggles, including contemplating suicide
after the divorce, and has shared how he has worked to recover financially and personally while living in
his home country.

His son Mathis recently signed for Chelsea, an event Eboué said left him feeling both happy for his son
and saddened by his absence.
Eboué’s comments highlight the lasting personal impact of his post-career challenges while expressing
hope for reconnection with his family.
