FG Pledges To Carry Nigerians In Diaspora Along In Policies And Programmes

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians in the
diaspora remain an integral part of the nation’s development agenda.
Speaking at a recent engagement with diaspora stakeholders, government officials emphasized
that the administration is determined to create platforms where Nigerians abroad can contribute
meaningfully to national growth.

According to the government, diaspora citizens have continued to play a critical role in Nigeria’s
economy, especially through remittances, investments, and knowledge transfer. Figures from the
World Bank highlight that remittances from Nigerians abroad run into billions of dollars
annually, making the diaspora community one of the country’s most valuable assets.
The pledge underscores plans to involve diaspora Nigerians in shaping policy frameworks on
investment, education, healthcare, and technology. Officials noted that Nigerians outside the
country also serve as global ambassadors, strengthening bilateral relations and projecting
Nigeria’s image on the world stage.

The Federal Government further assured that diaspora-focused initiatives will not be limited to
remittances but will expand into areas such as direct participation in governance, mentorship
opportunities, and fostering trade and cultural exchanges.
Analysts see this move as a timely step, given that many Nigerians in the diaspora have
consistently expressed willingness to support reforms back home if provided with clear
structures and accountability.

As part of the engagement, the government urged diaspora Nigerians to stay connected and seize
opportunities to partner in building a more prosperous nation, pledging that their voices will
continue to shape the country’s policies and programmes moving forward.
