I Had No Deal with ADC – Governor Adeleke
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied claims that the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
helped him secure re-election in the August 15 governorship poll, stating he had no electoral deal or
partnership with the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor clarified that the
ADC was never part of the political coalition that supported his campaign.
“I had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during, or after the governorship election,”
Adeleke said. “The credit for our victory goes to God Almighty and the good people of Osun State for
their overwhelming support and re-election.”
He added: “For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow
coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s
election. I commend all our political partners who sacrificed, worked tirelessly, and went all out to make
Saturday a victory day for all Osun people.”
Adeleke further stated that, with the election concluded, he remains the governor of all residents of
Osun State regardless of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity, and is committed to uniting the people
and advancing the state’s progress.
The clarification followed remarks attributed to ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, who
had indicated that the party deliberately collaborated with the Accord Party to prevent the All
Progressives Congress from winning the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes. He
defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, while the ADC candidate, Najeem
Salaam, polled 17,180 votes.
