President Trump Hosts Inaugural Board of Peace Meeting in Washington
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday presided over the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, a
new international body he established to coordinate efforts, particularly around the reconstruction of
Gaza, and address broader global security challenges.
The gathering, held at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., brought together representatives
from more than 40 countries, as well as several observers from nations not formally part of the board,
as the group discussed humanitarian aid, reconstruction planning and stabilization efforts for the war-
torn Palestinian territory.
In opening remarks, Trump described the Board of Peace as a landmark international initiative and
underscored the commitments made by member states.
Nine members of the body agreed to pledge about $7 billion toward a Gaza reconstruction and
humanitarian package, the president announced, while several countries also committed troops or
police trainers for an international stabilization force intended to help ensure security and support post-
conflict recovery.
Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Albania confirmed pledges to send troops to the
stabilization effort, while Egypt and Jordan volunteered to provide police training, Trump told delegates.
The United States was also reported to pledge roughly $10 billion, although details on funding sources
and allocations were not fully clarified at the event.
The Board of Peace, first proposed by Trump and officially launched earlier this year, was initially
conceived to manage post-war reconstruction and stabilization in Gaza following a fragile ceasefire
agreement.
Its mandate has since been broadened to include wider peace-building and security cooperation among
its members, the White House said ahead of Thursday’s session.
While supporters of the initiative hail it as a novel approach to international cooperation, some
established U.S. allies have remained cautious or opted not to join the Board of Peace, citing concerns
about its structure and how it fits alongside traditional institutions like the United Nations.
The meeting marked the first major assembly of the Board of Peace and set the stage for the potential next steps in international collaboration on humanitarian, security and reconstruction challenges linked to the Middle East and beyond.
