Qatari Delegation Arrives in Tehran Amid Intensifying US-Iran Peace Efforts

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with senior Iranian officials as mediators step up efforts to revive peace negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that the delegation, headed by a senior adviser to Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, came to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional developments.

The visit, coordinated with US officials, marks the second trip by Qatari mediators to the Iranian capital within a week. A previous Qatari delegation was in Tehran on Sunday.

The latest diplomatic push follows reports that Iran received a letter from US Vice President JD Vance addressed to Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei.

According to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, the letter, delivered via Qatari mediators, focused on a possible framework for negotiations rather than specific terms for a peace deal.

Qatar and Pakistan have been mediating efforts to revive peace talks following a ceasefire agreement earlier in the year.

Senior officials from several countries have also travelled to Tehran in recent days amid rising fears of a return to hostilities in the Middle East conflict, which began about eight months ago.

Al Jazeera reported that the Qatari team was thought to have travelled to receive Iran’s response to the US outreach and to elaborate on a potential new diplomatic path.

Sources indicated a meeting could possibly be held within a week in Doha or Istanbul.

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the conflict on the sidelines of a meeting in Moscow earlier this week.
