Tinubu, Obasanjo Pay Tribute To Chief Edwin Clark

Pan Niger Delta Forum leader, Chief Edwin Clark, is dead.

Aged 97, the former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader’s death was confirmed in a statement by a representative of the family, Prof. C. C. Clark, on Tuesday.

Clark’s death is coming on the heels of the passing of Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died at the age of 96 just a few days ago.

Both Clark and Adebanjo are known for contributing to the political development of the country.

Reacting to Edwin Clark’s death, Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has bemoaned the declining ranks of the nation’s patriotic leaders, particularly at this crucial stage in the country’s history, when their wise counsel and vast experience are greatly needed.

Obasanjo lamented that Clark’s death was particularly unfortunate, coming just four days after the passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the foremost Yoruba leader and Chairman of Afenifere.

Also, the Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman Edwin Clark.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described Clark as a patriot and a towering figure in Nigerian history.

The death of the elder statesman has sent shockwaves around the country.

President Bola Tinubu has also expressed sadness over the passing of former federal commissioner of information and respected leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended his condolences to the Edwin Clark family, the Ijaw nation, the people of the Niger Delta, and the government of Delta State.

President Tinubu mourned Clark and described his passing as a deeply sobering loss.

Reflecting on the life of the late statesman, the president said Clark was a towering figure whose influence was felt across Nigeria’s political firmament for nearly six decades.

According to President Tinubu, Clark was a courageous leader who stood for what he believed in and was never afraid to stand alone in the face of injustice.
