Atiku Pledges to Tackle Insecurity as He Faces ADC Presidential Screening
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised to make the fight against insecurity the cornerstone
of his administration if he emerges as the presidential candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress
(ADC) for the 2027 general elections.
Atiku appeared before the ADC Presidential Screening Committee on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the
party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
During the rigorous screening exercise, he presented his credentials and articulated his vision for
repositioning Nigeria.
In his presentation, Atiku emphasised that restoring peace and security across the country would be his
number one priority.
He criticised the current government’s handling of security challenges and pledged to adopt a
comprehensive, intelligence-driven, and multi-dimensional approach that combines robust military
action with socio-economic interventions, community engagement, and regional cooperation.
“I will tackle insecurity head-on. No nation can develop in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty,” Atiku
told members of the screening panel.
He further outlined plans to address root causes of insecurity such as poverty, unemployment, weak
governance, and porous borders.
Atiku also touched on other critical areas including economic revitalisation, job creation, agricultural
transformation, education reform, healthcare improvement, and strengthening anti-corruption
mechanisms.
The screening panel, led by a senior ADC chieftain, grilled Atiku extensively on his policy positions,
experience, and strategies for national development.
Sources familiar with the process described his presentation as detailed, confident, and well-received by
the committee.
