Presidency Differ With Bishop Onaiyekan On State Of The Nation
The presidency has defended the administration of President Bola Tinubu after the Bishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, criticised the administration, accusing the President’s aides of shielding him from the realities facing Nigerians.
His comments drew a sharp response from the Presidency, which said the cardinal was not speaking on behalf of all Christians in Nigeria.
Onaiyekan’s interview has since generated heat in Nigeria’s political terrain, as the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has backed the position of the Catholic bishop, while the presidency fights back on the ethics of off-record interviews.
The Catholic Bishops who met with the President spoke on issues affecting not only Catholics but also Christians and Nigerians in general, insisting that their message was one of national interest, humanity and good governance.
