Tinubu Congratulates New Kano Deputy Governor Murtala Garo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his swearing-in as the new
Deputy Governor of Kano State.
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo was officially sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday, May 5, 2026,
at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
The ceremony followed his confirmation by the Kano State House of Assembly after a thorough
screening process.

In a congratulatory message released on May 5, 2026, President Tinubu described the appointment as a
positive step towards strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
He commended Governor Yusuf for the decision, noting that it would promote cohesion and
collaborative governance for the overall development of the state.
Murtala Sule Garo is a seasoned politician who previously served as the APC governorship running mate
in the 2023 election. His emergence as deputy governor follows the resignation of the former occupant
of the office.

The President urged the new deputy governor to work closely with Governor Yusuf in delivering good
governance, advancing infrastructure, and improving the welfare of the people of Kano State.
He expressed confidence that Garo’s wealth of experience would contribute meaningfully to the
administration’s goals.
This development is seen as a significant political realignment in Kano, one of Nigeria’s most populous
and politically influential states.
It is expected to consolidate support for the ruling party ahead of future elections while addressing
previous internal party tensions.
