Wizkid Inducted as Honorary Member of Prestigious Lagos Motor Boat Club

Nigerian music superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has been inducted as an
honorary member of the Lagos Motor Boat Club, one of the city’s oldest and most respected social
institutions.
The club was founded in 1950 and has long served as an exclusive association for boat owners and
prominent figures in Lagos society.

Wizkid received his certificate of honorary membership and a club-branded hat at a ceremony held
during the club’s New Year’s Eve gala, where he also performed for attendees.
The presentation was made by the Commodore of the club, officials said, in recognition of his
contributions to Nigerian culture and his influence on the global music stage
The induction places the internationally acclaimed Afrobeats artist alongside other notable figures who
have been associated with the club, including Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikateland,
and Ogiame Atuwatse, the Olu of Warri.

Founded in 1950, the Lagos Motor Boat Club has historically been a gathering place for boat enthusiasts,
business leaders, and prominent members of Lagos’s social elite.
Over the decades, it has become known not only for recreational boating and races but also as a venue
where members of high society network and celebrate notable achievements.
Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, has risen from his beginnings in the Ojuelegba area
of Lagos to become one of Nigeria’s most successful international music stars, with multiple global hits
and collaborations, further elevating the visibility of Afrobeats on the world stage.

The honorary membership has generated significant reaction on social media, with many fans
celebrating the recognition of Wizkid’s cultural impact, while others offered mixed views about the
significance of such honors relative to his global music achievements.
